Jackson to Lake Tahoe via Kirkwood

What a tough day.
Woke up at 5:30 am thank God we got that extra 30 today. We stayin in a High School in Jackson, California. Didn't sleep very well bc all of us kept waking up every hour in anticipation of the hardest day ever. We had the best breakfast at Mel's Diner...it consisted of eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit, oatmeal, OJ & coffee. That's heaven right there.

My paceline and I started as sweeps in the very back of the 27 other cyclist. This was about an hour after the first group. We finished the new 91 mile Kirkwood ride into Lake Tahoe in 7 hours and 6 minutes...the "new record"...hahaha. Our average speed was 12.6 mph w/ a max of 47.6 mph...I didn't get that speed until we went down our 3rd pass of the day because the my bike was shaking sooo badly I was petrified. Never prayed so much in a 2 minute period. The reason I got it the 3rd time is because I was pedaling hardcore down the straight.

So the first 1/3 was killer, the 2/3 was confusingly difficult, & the final 3rd was AWESOME! We were going sooo fast in a tight paceline...Myself, Matt Ellwood & Dave Sarrett just booked the entire time.

I kept thinking a million things while we were riding...It's really normal to have about a million thoughts just going through your head while you ride...For example whenever someone says a certain word...we all start singing a song with similar words...& AHHH one of the most tortutious songs stuck in my head is that DAMN Katy Perry song "California Girls" ...& it's basically just the chorus...

So it's been a looong day...I'm in my hotel bed at the Super 8 writing this and getting ready to take an hour nap before we all go out & I have my first beer in what feels like forever. We have an OFF DAY tomorrow soo we'll be able to wake up later and do our own thing for a while.

THANK YOU ALLLL sooo much for reading this and checking up on me...It makes me feel great that you all follow it [=

With love and in Pi Alpha,
David

  2. You're welcome David and thank you for blogging! Mommy said 'tell him I love him, and I just pulled out my gown I wore when I was pregnant with him, and the little Easter bin Memaw made him, and I wish I could touch his little face, and hug him'. And she said she prays for him every day. All that mushy stuff.
