13 days to Journey of Hope Kick Off

So less than two weeks remain until 90 brothers of Pi Kappa Phi will be gearing up for the trek of a lifetime. Meeting in San Francisco and Seattle, the Journey of Hope teams will kick off what has been in preparation for over a year.
Our 3 teams, North, South & TransAmerica are coming close to the $500,000 that is raised annually from one of the most influential philanthropic events in the known world. This will be the 23rd Journey of Hope in history and for me, my 2nd time.

As a freshman in college I signed up for the South route of JOH in 2008 and had no idea what to expect. I was anxious, nervous, excited and eccentric all at the same time. This year however, I somewhat know what to expect. I know that I'm going to be cycling on a bicycle for 8 hours, riding 80 miles per day. I know that after the rides we are going to meet and interact with people with disabilities and truly connect and grow with them.

What I don't know is how I am going to feel. I am so excited to be doing it with the team I am on, so excited to be going across the North part of the country, a place where I have never been, and I am excited to be a part of such a bigger thing than I am alone.
The nervousness is back.

What these crew members and cyclist put themselves through is almost superhuman. I just want to keep up and experience everything to the fullest.

This is my first post, PLEASE continue to follow this blog and my Facebook, I can describe to you how much the support is needed.

Yours In Pi Kappa Phi,
David Brown
